Suggest Remedy For Severe Abdominal Pain Due To Constipation And Torn Stomach Muscle

My 14 year old daughter has been in severe abdominal pain for 4 weeks now. I have had her at the local ER 3 times, family physician 2x and physio therapist this morning. As I type this she is screaming in pain and I am 1 1/2hrs from sick kids hospital. She was diagnosed with constipation, torn stomach muscle and now they are considering her diaphragm. I m at a loss and don t know what to do next. Any suggestions?

Good morning dear one, It is possible that a genetic illness exists here. Has your doctor checked for Hypermobility Syndrome? Per your current problem, let us try some things as if the child has gastroparesis, which is possible.1) Take her off all fiber; Increase her fluid intake from pure water or decaffeinated tea to assure she gets 8-10 full 8 ounces glasses of water spread throughout the day; gently massage her abdomen every evening; add daily doses of stool softeners (if the doctor agrees) and I suggest polyethylene glycol (usual dose 17 g scoop in glass of water); and if she hasn't been checked for stool impaction ( I can't imagine she hasn't) make sure she gets checked (x-ray generally). With the torn stomach muscles, what has the doctor suggested as it is hard to strain at the stool with torn stomach muscles? I would think wearing a support guard of some sort while trying to relieve herself in the bathroom might be beneficial.

Now, people may argue she needs more fiber, not less. In her case, fiber causes unnecessary weight to her stool content. I don't think she should start fiber back in her diet until absominal muscles have healed and she is having normal bowels. Then very gradually add it back in or she will have abdominal distress adding a great deal of fiber back all at once. Good Luck. Please feel free to see me at my e-clinic.
