Suggest Remedy For Severe Mood Swings In An Eldery Lady While On Trazadone And Melatoin

My Mother is 79 yrs old and just recently she gets pp at night and wonders through the house. She accuses my Father who lives in the home of having affairs which he did many yrs ago. She has outburst because of it and the caregivers have a hard time calming her down. She is on 2 mg of abilify and take trazadone at night with melatoin. Any suggestions.

I can understand your concern. She is on Aripiprazole 2 mg, Trazodone and Melatonin for sleep. Her behaviour like accusing your father of having affair, abnormal anger outbursts could be occurring due to some psychotic episode. At elderly age dementia is also one of important cause for such symptoms. She wanders here and there in house and this cant be ignored. I would advise you to consult her psychiatrist for re-evaluation. Even increase in dose of aripiprazole should help. Aripiprazole would help in controlling her psychotic symptoms. If the drug fails to act then other drugs like Risperidone can help. Visit her psychiatrist for prescription of these drugs.
