Suggest Remedy For Severe Rectal Pain With Bleeding

Hi, my wife is in hospital now in a great deal of pain. She s been passing blood from her back passage for a couple of days now and she s been given buscopan to stop the constant bowl contractions. She s also been given morphine for the pain. She has been told to take a cocktail of laxatives so she is ready for a colonoscopy in the morning. This dosent sound right to me. I am aware that the laxatives must be taken to clear the colon

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Pain and bleeding per rectum can be due to fissure in ano. Colonoscopy is to find out other causes of bleeding like polyps, hemorrhoids etc. To see the colon clearly, Laxative is must. If the colon is loaded with fecal matter, colonoscopy cannot see anything. If colonoscopy is normal, you should consult a surgeon / surgical gastroenterologist and proceed further.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
