Suggest Remedy For Shortness Of Breath When On Warfarin For Pulmonary Embolisms
hi i am 47 have had pulmonary embolisms in the past . warfarin levels are rarely in therapuetic range. i have been on warfarin for 15 years for reaccurring pulmonary embolisms started to get flutter feelings in chest and feeling like you do when your anxious in chest . was put on a holter monitir that said i showed signs of VEB and im short of breathe. doctor prescribed a b blocker but i read do not take if lactose intolerant , which I am . I dont know if i should continue walking on machine as I know it increases when I have been on it.
Your have said your warfarin levels are rarely in the therapeutic range and this is a unsafe, with you background history of reoccurring PE, it is best to get your INR to the right level (basically to get your blood thin enough to avoid a clot and a PE). You also mentioned you doctor commencing you on B-blocker, which I suppose you have being prescribed for the flutter or irregular heart beats.
I would strongly suggest you discuss with your doctor to prescribe an alternative since you are intolerant to the B-blocker. I would advise an urgent review with your doctor to check your heart rate manually, examine you, and offer you a blood test, and offer other medication like Apixaban or Rivaroxaban these do not need regular blood monitoring like the Warfarin does.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Joy Anosike, General & Family Physician
