Suggest Remedy For Side Effects From Intake Of Megestrol Acetate
My elderly father is having a hard time keeping up an appetite and his doctor prescribed megesnol acetat (spelling is not correct) but the side effects are not good, he has health issues heart, blood pressure. He is 6 1 and only weighs about 150 lbs. he is 80 years old and plays golf once a week (uses a cart to get around the golf course) and mows the lawn and general light yard work. To avoid taking this medication what are good foods he good get a lot of calories from to help him? He basically feels fine just no appetite. He does not like ensure which was my first suggestion.
Long term use of Megestrol acetate can cause side effects like fever, weakness, gastrointestinal upset and difficulty in sleeping. Loss of appetite could be related to age or can occur due to chronic disorders like chronic infections, malabsorption syndromes. Megesterol can be stopped and other appetite stimulants can be used.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
