Hello,
Your daughter is prescribed minocycline for treatment of acne. Presently, she is feeling dizzy and is having
stomach upset. She is suggested to take anti-diarrheal's and antacids to get rid of her stomach problems. She should talk with the treating doctor about her symptoms. The doctor will either change the medicine that suits her better or reduce the dose.
In the meantime, to control acne she should keep her face clean, take care of her hygiene, take shower regularly. She should change her pillow cover everyday or on alternate days and get it washed clean. Oily face triggers acne and pimples. Use face products (moisturizers) that are water based so that they won’t clog your pores.
Avoid any makeup on face, let the skin breath. She can take facial steam treatment weekly to prevent pores from clogging. It will help to reduce and clear off acne and pimples. OTC acne products usually contain the active ingredient
salicylic acid or
benzoyl peroxide. These substances reduce the amount of oil your body produces.
She can use acne gels or creams that contain tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide, or an antibiotic called
clindamycin. They are helpful. She should get clinically examined by a
Dermatologist. She may be recommended
laser therapy or
dermabrasion, etc. She needs to stay away from addictions, smoking, alcohol, drugs, etc. Take adequate amount of water and fluids. Avoid direct exposure to sunlight.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
