Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have recently been diagnosed as being tachy brady and hypotensive. I was told I have sick sinus. I have had multiple episodes of Afib, one aflutter ablation and now a new flutter. With the last aflutter they used cardioversion to restore the rhythm and during TEE discovered a hole between the upper chambers. This hole is in addition to an ASD repair that I had in 1962 to repair a hole between the upper chambers. They repaired the ASD in 1962 with a woven Teflon patch. I have consulted a cardiac surgeon which recommends closing the new hole, but there is some discussion as to whether they should do this percutaneously or open heart. The discussion is really about whether or I should have an afib maze done. How effective are mazes in treating afib, aflutter, and any number of other arrhythmias? Are mazes worth the increased risks of open heart? thank you
Hi i did review your condition. Mazes are used when nothing else works for Afib and they are quite good result techniques to control rate and rhythm of heart in case of chronic sinus problem and resultant afib.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions or concerns. wish you a very healthy life ahead.
