Suggest Remedy For Slurred Speech And Headache After Getting Hit On Head

I am a 19 year old male. I was hit in the head a couple weeks ago with a metal rod; towards the top of the right end of the right eyebrow. I have noticed the following ever since I was hit:
1. Slurred speech
2. Difficulty finding the right word for what I want to say
3. Talking more than usual. For example, instead saying something in a sentence...I go on and on trying to explain something simple, saying the same thing pretty much over and over again
4. Headaches when thinking hard. I have never had headaches before in my life...
5. Confusion

Should I just take some anti-inflammotories? I have no health insurance till august..so seeing a doctor in un-preferable. Thank you!

Hello. Thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. It is good that you have carefully observed details of your symptoms.

Now evaluating your symptoms, I can think of damage of frontal and temporal lobe left side. But as you had injury on right side of forehead near eyebrow. It can lead to damage of right frontal lobe, lateral aspect near base. If you are a right handed person, than it is your non-dominant lobe i.e. lesser active area than left frontal lobe. Damage of lateral basal region of right frontal lobe is usually asymptomatic. It can cause mild change in personality like lack of motivation, poor planning and difficulty in initiation of work and sometimes fits. But more chances are with left frontal lobe.

My point is that do not worry, as injury has occurred on right side and it is not necessary that injury has occurred in frontal lobe or brain. One more point in favour of your injury is that it had occurred few weeks ago. Serious head injury usually shows its signs and symptoms in few hours of its occurrence.

But as you are having symptoms, you can follow these points
: Try to speak at slow speed
: Keep a diary to remember things
: Take pain killers like Diclofenac sodium to proper prescription
: Take some bed rest to relax and relieve tension
: You can take help of speech therapist for slurring
: Consult neurosurgeon, who might advise CT scan or MRI of brain to evaluate your brain and effects of injury of lobe.

Thanks. Hope it will help you. Take care.
