Suggest Remedy For Sore Throat Causing Excessive Saliva

I have a sore throat and it's causing my mouth to water extremely! It's keeping me up and unable to sleep. I'm already taking a generic form of cold & sore throat medicine but it's not helping. The more my mouth waters the more I swallow which is making my throat hurt more and making nauseous, what can I do?

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have sore throat and excessive saliva . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like , but in your case it seems to me that the symptoms are due to acid reflux . I would suggest you to avoid eating spicy and heavy food specially at night , take light walk after every meal , take antacid after every meal and eat at least one hour before going to sleep . Consult gastroenterologist for proper examination . Doctor may order x-ray of digestive track , endoscopy of esophagus and ambulatory acidity test . Doctor may prescribe H2 blockers or proton pump inhibitor .Doctor may prescribe Glycopyrrolate (Robinul) for excessive saliva . Doctor may also refer you to ENT specialist if he/she find problem to be related with upper respiratory track infection . For now do warm saline gargles and maintain oral hygiene .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
