My 16 year old son has a sore throat on one side; it is very enlarged with a tissue (like a stalagtite) protruding down from the 'mass'. went to doc and doesn't look like strep or mono; still running a fever #100 degrees#; the 'tissue' is very perplexing; doc hadn't seen that before. what is that?
It may be inflammation of the tonsil that is tonsillar enlargement or tonsillar abscess. You need to change your doctor.
Start an oral antibiotic with Amoxicillin 1 tab twice daily for 7 days. Start tablet Levocetirizine 1 tablet at bedtime for 7 days. Give betadine gargle thrice daily for 1 week.
If it is tonsillar abscess, then we need to drain the abscess in the operation theatre. Take plenty of water and monitor temperature.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
