Suggest Remedy For Sore Throat

Hi, I had a throat infection on 10-Dec (20 days back), it resulted in a cold and when the cold was reducing, a persistent dry cough started. This happens every year at this time for me. I stay in bangalore. I was given Esiflo 250 rotocap - 2 caps in the morning and evening for 10 days and reduce to 1 cap thereafter. Initial 10 days the cough did not reduce. Meanwhile, I travelled out of station and the weather change got the throat infection and cold back. Now my throat is healing, but the cough persists. I stopped the rotocaps when I got the sore throat last week. My cold is still pretty bad and so is the dry cough. Should I continue the rotocaps or should I get examined for any residual infection for treatment?

Hi,thank you for posting your query on health care magic.

Looking at your symptoms you are probably suffering from inflammation in the respiratory tract.Allergy might be a cause.

Rotacaps contain Salbutamol which helps in dilating the narrow airway(bronchii).Doctor would have suspected inflammation of lower respiratory tract,so he would have started Rotacaps. You may continue using it.

In addition, you may find relief by taking the following medication:
Oral decongestant like Phenylephrine,Nasal decongestant drops like Xylometazoline(take decongestant only if you are not suffering from hypertension),Antihistaminic like Levocetrizine,Analgesic with Antiinflammatory like Ibuprofen,Antacid like Rantac,Cough suppressant like Dextromethorphan.

Also do steam inhalation.Do warm saline gargles.Avoid cold, oily and very sweet food as they increase mucus production.Avoid dust, smoke and other pollutants.

Hope this answers your question.Take care.
