Suggest Remedy For Swelling And Bruising Of Inflamed Ankle?

I recently hit my shin/ankle on my bed. At first it was just sore but hadn't bruised. Now, almost a week later, its bright red and enflamed and very hot, it throbs when I'm walking and is somewhat painful when I'm getting dressed etc. Should I go & consult a doctor? If not what can I do to help it heal quicker?
