Suggest Remedy For Swelling And Pain At The Site Of Blood Draw
I had blood drawn this morning. I noticed pain to the area when the phlebotomist withdrew the needle. Now the pain is significantly increased and the area is swelling. Should I put ice on it and take an NSAID or does this need more emergent intervention?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. Swelling and pain at the site of drawing of blood is mainly caused due to allergic reaction or inflammation called as 'thrombophlebitis'. What measures have been taken is right. Continue to take NSAID like Ibuprofen twice daily after food for 3 to 5 days. You can apply as a thin smear lightly on affected area skin (do not rub) Thrombophob Gel (Heparin Sodium) twice a day until the swelling and inflammation subsides. You should get better soon. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best and wish you speedy recovery.
