Suggest Remedy For Swelling In Leg Caused By Unknown Reason

I was bit by something while camping in an open area at the Delta in Northern California on the Sacramento River. My leg is swollen, hot to the touch and very tight. I am currently taking benedryl (3 in past 8 hours). I do not have a fever or sweats nor do I have chills.

Hi...
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns...

As per your complain it seems like you have got an allergic reaction to the toxic chemical injected by the insect/bug while it stung your leg leading to inflammation and the swelling, hot to touch and tightness is due to it..
You should continue taking anti-allergics like benadry not so frequently as you did.
Taking twice a day is sufficient..
You can take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen or Naproxen.
Do cool compresses over the area to reduce inflammation..
You can also apply a steroid ointment..
Elevate your leg while lying down..
It can take almost a week to resolve but in case of no improvement or exaggeration of symptoms consult a Physician and get evaluated and he can also advise you to take oral and injectable steroids and anti-allergics for faster relief..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
