Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My twelve year old blonde caucasian son went camping last weekend and now he has severe swelling in his forehead and eyes. I took him to the er yesterday and they did a cat scan and urine test. They said he was just fine. He has no other ailments or discomfort and the swelling has only moved downward on his face and eyes. Been swollen for two full days. I give him benadryl and ibuprofen but it dont seam to help much. Nor does cold compress. What can i do? Is this common? Should i worry as much? Because i cant even sleep or go to work because i keep checking on him every hour for improvement and i see none. It just seems to have moved from high on his forehead and temples to his eyes and cheeks. Will his lips or throat swell can he stop breathing in his sleep? I am worried sick!!!
As per my clinical experience, as there is history of camping trip, I suspect a bug bite over the scalp with secondary manifestations of swelling over eyelids, cheeks and down. Presence of antibodies in the blood can be part of best initial evaluation in your case, though following measures will help at this point: - Local application of ice over the swollen part - Anti-inflammatory medications as Nimesulide, proteolytic enzymes such as serratiopeptidase, antibiotics such as Cephalexin or Amoxicillin with Clavulanic acid.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
