Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My brother ran into a wire at a grad party and now has a huge welt on his right cheek. He is part of a bridal party this weekend. Is there any way to expedite the healing process or to reduce the redness/swelling fast? He is 24 years old, 6'2'', roughly 170 lbs, and has no allergies.
Its really sad to hear your brother's condition. The weal on his cheek might be due to soft tissue injury he got from the accident.Any injury to the blood vessels can cause bleeding into the soft tissue planes which result in collection of blood within the tissues and is called Haematoma. Consult a GP or a Maxillofacial Surgeon to rule out any fractures of bones of face. If there is no bone fracture and other serious conditions, medications can be given to reduce pain and the body's response to injury. If the swelling is due to collection of blood(Haematoma),it can be drained with a needle, only if it does not subside. Praying for your brother to get well soon...
