Suggest Remedy For Swelling With Bleeding And Discharge At The Site Of Surgery

My daughter had polo ideal surgery and it has started to bleed ; literally flowing down the bottom crack ; blood mixed with yellow like pus but flowing. Appears to be swollen on the sides of the sutures. This is the 2nd day. GP gave her amoxillin. She has walked for about 8 miles in two days and that s when it started hurting and eventually draining. Should I take her back to GP? She s only taken the amoxicillin for 2 days.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.

Any surgery has sutures. These sutures can get infected or there may be bleeding from the suture sites as some of the blood vessels get injured or torn.

This can cause some bleeding. In most cases, one would need to apply pressure to the wound to prevent further bleeding. However, a bleed can indicate other complications and it would be a good idea to get a check up with your surgeon.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Vignan Rachabattuni
