hi i have a very bad brused finger nail its almost all black it was hit at the base of the nail more so on the cutical 3 days ago still swollen. been taking 800mg IBprofen an just started taking cephalexin 500mg should i see a doctor or just let nature take its course. it looks pretty bad
It seems that you have the effects of trauma to the base of the nail plate. In a situation like yours, I would have advised that Ibuprofen is the right choice but it should be given in divided doses, that is , at least 400 mg thrice a day after food. If there is no break in the continuity of the skin, then taking antibiotics will not be really useful to you.
The swelling will gradually subside while the nail color is likely to take longer time to recover because as the nail grows the injured part of the nail will move towards the finger tip and get slowly removed.
You need to see a doctor only if there is any suspicion of fracture which seems less likely on the basis of your details.
I hope you will get well soon.
Our best wishes
