Suggest Remedy For Tender, Red And Puffy Under Eyes

I noticied today that the area under my eye near my nose was tender and later the area spread. It now has a red circle type area around the eye area and is a little puffy. I think it might be a spider bite, but it seems to be spreading and the other eye looks like it may be getting red also. Should I be concerned enough to go to the hospital to have it looked at or should I wait until the morning to see how it looks?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
I had gone through your query and understand your concern.

Short answer: Yes, you need to see an opthalmologist.

Detailed answer :
Thank you for asking.

The area which you have mantioned has many glands and its where the tear gets drained from eyes. A painful swelling in this area indicates an inflammatory condition. It may be an infection. It is possible that it spreads from one eye to other eye when touch other eye after touching the infected eye. No, it's not a spider bite.

Wash your eyes with clean water. Use different tissue paper to both eyes. Please consult an opthalmologist who will help you with further diagnosis and treatment.

I hope this helps

If you have any other queries I'll be happy to help.

Regards,
Dr.Prathap Kumar
