Hi,
A new onset of
sore throat, associated with what you felt as being warm (which can be fever), nasal discharges, and possibly irritability, can be due to an upper
respiratory tract infection, commonly caused by viruses and bacteria. Viral causes usually present with milder symptoms and improvement in about 3-5 days, usually with rest and supportive measures like taking pain relievers, antiseptic gargles, and medication for fever. On the other hand, bacterial causes which can affect the tonsils, present with more sever symptoms like
high-grade fever, difficulty and pain with swallowing,
poor appetite, and weakness. And this is usually treated as mentioned above, but with antibiotics which includes, but not limited to Amoxicillin-
clavulanic acid,
Azithromycin, and the like.
I recommend a consult with a doctor for a physical examination, as the presence of pus in the tonsils would likely entail a bacterial cause and would warrant prescription antibiotics, as compared to a viral cause which presents with no pus in the tonsils and may only seen as enlarged, associated with other symptoms like nasal discharges, poor appetite, and body pains, but would not require antibiotic intake.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
