I have vit d deficiency for which the doctor has told me to take sun exposure. Can you tell me which is the best time for sun exposure in mumbai and for how long?Various doctors have differing opinions ,some say early morning sun is good, another told me i should take sun exposure after 10 am for 15 mins on the forearm for 3 times in a week .As a result i am confused.Would be glad of your guidance
Hello and welcome to HCM, Vitamin D deficiency is corrected by taking sun exposure for few minutes. The early morning sun exposure is good in the manner as told to you by yor doctor. The afternoon sunlight is harmful since it contains ultraviolet rays. Another effective method for vitamin D deficiency is to take vitamin D supplements. The blood level of vitamin D should be determined after a course of vitamin D. However, the vitamin D supplement has to be prescribed by your primary health provider.
