Suggest Remedy For Vomiting After Hernia Operation

I have been sick after a hernia operation . I felt my stomach muscles push severly on my mesh gauze. Is that going to put my hernia under strain? Could it have popped out again.? I ask this because this is the second time I have had this surgery after it popping out last time.

Hello,

You had hernia operation and feel sick post-operatively. You are having nausea and vomiting. You need not get bothered about nausea and vomiting, it often occurs due to the after effects of anesthesia. You can take anti emetics to stop nauseating and vomiting. Stay at rest, do not over think. Take the precautions stated below and it will not pop out again. Do not fear. Since you are in the post operative stage you should not engage in strenuous exercise or heavy lifting for at least around four to six weeks.

Lifting at the early stage of recovery may cause hernias to come back. You can do strenuous exercise not before 6 -8 weeks of recovery. You should avoid lifting heavy weight and not do any heavy work for two to three weeks after your surgery. Avoid pools, baths and hot tubs for up to three weeks. Stay away from addictions if any. For about two weeks after the surgery you may get easily fatigued, take rest and quality sleep and limit your activities.

Do not do anything that may cause you pain. Sexual intercourse may be possible not before four weeks, sometimes after five weeks. You should not drive or drink alcohol for around fifteen days after undergoing hernia repair. Return to work is possible only after 2-3 weeks following surgery. If jobs require manual labor, recovery time may take longer (5-6 weeks) before they can return to work. Anyways, if you are always nauseated or are unable to ingest liquids, call your treating doctor.

You should also call your surgeon if you are having post operative complications like redness or swelling at the incision site, fever / chills, bleeding at the incision site, pain and nausea increasing over time, unable to take liquids and difficulty in urinating. You may need medical aid. You may book an appointment and get a follow-up clinical examination so that your symptoms can be taken care of.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
