Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had a wart on my thumb for over year now. I have tried over the counter freezing, but it has grown, it is now over the crease when I bend my thumb and has become painful as it has cracked and gets caught on things when I use my hand. I attracted it once with nail clippers but it grew back. Can you suggest what to try now
Soak the thumb which has wart in water for 5 minutes, then apply ointment or gel containing salicylic acid. Apply enough gel to cover the area & rub it gently. It may take 4-6 weeks to go away. You are suggested to consult a dermatologist. Bleomycin may be injected into the wart to kill the virus. You may need cryosurgery or surgery depending on the clinical condition.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Yogapriya Vasudevan, General & Family Physician
