Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a white scab on the tip of my tongue. It started out as an inflamed taste bud but quickly turned into a white scab approximately 1cm in diameter. It seems to have no feeling in it but my tongue is very sore and irritated. I've had this for 3 weeks..
Thanks for query . The symptoms you mention in query are clearly indicating a condition called oral thrush , which is fungal infection.
There can be many reasons for occurrence of oral thrush like taking too much antibiotics , corticosteroids and birth controlling pills . This can also be caused by conditions like HIV which weakens the immunity of body and make it prone to infection.
I would suggest you to consult oral pathologist for proper diagnosis . Doctor may order blood test or throat swab test . He/she may prescribe anti fungal drugs like amphotericin B for at least 10 days.
For now what you can do is maintain proper oral hygiene , do warm saline rinses and use orabase gel for burning and itchiness .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
