Dietitian & Nutritionist 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to HealthcareMagic,
You have already diagnosed what your problem is. Now you need to find someone to help you work on it. It can be a dietitian experienced in emotional overeating or an addictions therapist or a psychotherapist. Generally, it works like this. You know in your head what you "SHOULD" do. That is not the issue.
We need to uncover the emotions you experience when you overeat, where they come from, how to treat them/heal them/replace when appropriate and teach strategies that are identified in the assessment process as being helpful.

We have you fill out a food diary listing the day, time, food, amount, how you were feeling at the time or shortly before you ate and if you were physically hungry. The therapist talks to you about your goals, options and together you set up a plan to reach your goals that you feel comfortable with. Remember, nothing works until the emotions heal. Don't be afraid.

The hardest part is finding someone close to you - a dietitian who specializes in eating disorders might be an option. If you are in the US you can type in eatright.org and look for a local dietitian.

I don't have your height, but I do believe you probably would not qualify for bariatric surgery and pills never work long term. Emotional eating only gets worse with age so it is best to deal with it now.

I wish you the best in finding the right person to help lead you in the proper direction to make a lifelong difference in your weight. Kind Regards, Kathryn Shattler, MS,RDN
