Make sure the food that you eat is low in fat especially saturated fats like butter, margarine etc. Cut down on fat from milk. You can use low fat milk and curd. Avoid rich gravies and curries with lots of oil. Use not more than 3 tsp of refined vegetable oil in a day per person. Check packaged foods for fat content. Nuts have hidden fats so take it only in limited amounts. You can have almonds (4-5) in a day as it helps to reduce
cholesterol but avoid cashews, walnuts etc.
If you are sedentary, then limit activities like TV viewing, Computer use and sitting for long hours. Stay active throughout the day and brisk walk for 30-45 minutes a day atleast 5 times a week. This will help to lower your cholesterol levels.
Include foods like oats, oat bran (cholesterol lowering), beans like
kidney beans and chick peas more in your diet. Have plenty of raw salads (without oily dressings).
Remove skin from chicken and do not have the yolk of eggs.
Avoid eating out and choose low fat healthier foods when eating out.
