Suggest Right Dosage Of "Oxycodone" For Knee Pain

I am taking 10mg (2- 5 mg tablets) oxycodone a day for pain from physical therapy post knee surgery and scapula surgery. Is this too much? How will I know if/when I am getting in trouble with addiction? I am concerned because I only want to take it at late afternoon when my pain is highest. Isn't taking it at the same time every day indicative of becoming addicted? The surgeries were from being hit as a pedestrian by a speeding SUV. The nursing home I stayed in used the oxycodone with no problem for me since I didn't ask for it often. My current family doctor is "frightened" by it in any amount. Thank you for your answers. Nancy
