Hi,
Metoprolol belongs to the group of medications known as beta blockers that is used in the treatment of
high blood pressure, angina and prevention of strokes, heart attacks and kidney problems etc. This medication has side effects of its own. Side effects of Metoprolol are
shortness of breath, cough, irregular breathing, chest pain or discomfort, dizziness, tiredness, nausea, vomiting, weakness,
hypotension, dry mouth, cold extremities, bloating, stomach pain, extreme fatigue, bradycardia, diarrhea or
constipation, fainting, allergic reactions etc.
If someone stops taking this medication abruptly, then it can exacerbate angina, increase the risk of heart attack or
cardiac arrhythmia etc. So, your father in law should not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor first.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
