Suggest Solution To Ear Problems

My daughter had fluid in her right middle ear and pressure on her other ear. We waited a while to see if they get better by themselves. They didn t. She now has fluid in her left ear and pressure on the other one. She hasn t had ear infection for a long time. Since she was 4. She is 7 now. She failed her hearing tests several times. Doctor suggested to put ear tubes in both ears and also Adenoidectomy? If we do both, will that fix her hearing problem? She doesn t snore nor has any breathing problems. We are trying to decide if we should just go ahead and do both eartubes and Adenoidectomy without questioning or asking for second opinion. If there is a big chance her hearing problem will be fixed then I will do it. If it is questionable, then we will look into it more before we do it.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
I can understand the problem your daughter is going through Eustachian Tube dysfunction may be due to adenoids as this is the age of adenoiditis and oro=pharyngeal infections.

There are two alternatives for such a case:
1. Get a 3 week course of an antibiotic, decongestant nasal drops and oral syrup, anti-inflammatory and oral steroids
I am sure this amy help her the best and may not need any surgical intervention.

2. Surgery of Adenoidectomy and ventilation tubes only if the medical management fails.

In addition take extra care:
No sudden change of temperature
No cold drinks, no aerated drinks, chocolates.
No forceful blowing of the nose.
Avoid exposure to people with flu.
