Internal Medicine Specialist, Dr. Ivo Ditah's Response
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
I am so sorry to hear about this difficulty gaining weight following your surgery. Without a pancreas, digestion would be difficult and you would have chronic maldigestion syndrome which would result in most of the calories not being taken up by the body because of poor digestion. To address this condition, you would need to have supplements of the various enzymes produced by the pancreas. If you are not on these, talk to your doctor for consideration. Also, try eating healthy and staying fit.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
