Hello,
A few indications of
spinal surgery are:
1) Altered bladder function (inability to control urination)
2) Altered bowel function
3) Progressive neurological deficits such as motor or
muscle weakness and sensory changes like loss of touch in the lower extremities
4) Surgery should also be considered in patients with
radicular pain that persists after an adequate course of conservative management
You seem to be having the indications for surgery. You can consult a spinal surgeon and both of you can decide if lazer or open fixation would be better. It depends upon the following factors:
1) The level of
lumbar spine involved
2) Number of discs involved
3) Individual preferences
4) Convenience or expertise of doctor.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
