Suggest Tests That Can Determine The Cause For Elevated Blood Sugar Levels Despite Having A Healthy Lifestyle
I’m a 5’9” male I weigh 165lbs. Not over weight or obese. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2014 without any warning. There is no genetic component. I’ve watched my a1c climb for the last 4 years even though I am in excellent physical shape, eat healthy and have an overall healthy lifestyle. I cannot get any explanation as to why my diabetes continues to progress despite my diligent efforts. My doctor follows the conventional medicine model treating my symptoms with prescriptions. What doctor can tell me why I was stricken with this disease? What tests can be done to determine what’s going on? Thank you.
Pathophysiology of Type 2 DM is complex and not yet completely clear. Insulin resistance and abnormal insulin secretion are central to the development of type 2 DM. The genes that predispose to type 2 DM are incompletely identified. The utero environment also contributes, and either increased or reduced birth weight increases the risk of type 2 DM in adult life.
Apart from lifestyle modification and diet control, oral drugs and /or insulin therapy is needed to achieve sugar control.
It is not often possible to determine why a particular individual is affected with diabetes in spite of no obvious genetic predisposition as the disease occurs due to the interplay of many factors.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
