Suggest Tests To Diagnose Persistent Pain In Thigh
I have had severe thigh pain for almost 3 years now. Doctors cannot find cause. I have been on so many pain meds with no relief. Now I am going for pt & she said she thinks it is IT band symdrome. What test can I take, such as x-ray, ct scan or ultrasound. I need to find out ASAP. Thank you very much!
I can understand your concern. IT band syndrome usually occurs due to activities that require leg to be turned inwards repeatedly. Wearing worn out shoes or running too much can cause this. Some women can have this without these reason simply because their hips tilt in a certain way. Iliotibial band is a fibrous thick band present in the side of the leg from hip to shin. If this band comes nearer to knee, it becomes narrow and rubbing can occur between band and bone. This causes inflammation of the band and IT syndrome.
It is not usually diagnosed in x-ray as it is not the problem of bone. However, sometimes MRI can confirm the diagnosis by showing presence of thickening of the band.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you get to reach a specific diagnosis soon.
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
