Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been taking oxycodone 5 mg IR 4 x per day for roughly 8 months, I have had just recently been upped to 10 mg IR 2x per day. I noticed yesterday, being my first day of increase, that my heart was palpitating much worse than usual. I do have a annoying issue w/ palpitations no matter the supplements, magnesium etc I have tried or continue to take. Is this something I should be worried about? It s very uncomfortable and alarming as it is not my usual.
Oxycodone does cause irregular heart rhythms - some of which may be quite serious in nature. Since you have been prescribed Oxycodone, I presume you have a condition which requires chronic pain relief. Please consult your physician regarding other options for pain relief which can be added to the earlier dosage of Oxycodone you were comfortable with i.e. 5mg. There are many other pain killers available, though only opioids are relatively safer for long term use. Please avoid taking NSAIDs like ibuprofen, aspirin, diclofenac, etc for longer than 2 weeks as they are known to cause kidney problems.
Hope this helps. Wishing you good health.
Regards, Dr Geeta
