Suggest The Right Dosage Of Eltroxin Using Below Thyroid Test Result
Hi. I had a thyroidectemy and I'm on 200 mcg of eltroxin and I was wondering if the dose should be higher or lower... my t4 was at 8, 2 weeks ago because I had been taking cytomel 25mcg, twice a day for a few months but, now I am just taking 200 mcg of eltoxin.
Hello there, Thank you for your question. The dose of eltroxin after thyroidectomy is usually weight based, So it would have helped me if you had mentioned your weight. The second factor which determines doses is the value of TSH (Thyroid stimulating hormone) and not t4. Now cytomel 25mcg twice a day and eltroxin 200mcg once a day are very different doses. Thyroid medicines have to be taken once a day in the morning on empty stomach and food should be taken only after half hour's gap. If I were to treat you I would base the dose on your weight and TSH value. So do visit an endocrinologist who can get the required blood tests and suggest the right dose after examination. Hope this helps. Take care.
