Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, my baby appears to move less lately. He was born at week 30 and is now 11 weeks old, still in baby ICU. The doctors dont have answers for, they seem to think it is a Neural/muscle disorder. What confuses us is that he was doing quite well and at some stage he was breathing by himself. so far all his tests have been negative apart from some infections. He is currently on a high frequency ventilation and is finding it difficult to breath by himself. Lately his saturation has been going down on 100% oxygen. He has started to develop liquid around one of his lungs and his other lung is filling up too. Please help.
Did the baby cried soon after birth, or was there any need of resuscitation then? Diminished movements and poor breathing might suggest severe birth asphyxia (not crying / breathing soon after birth), floppy infant syndrome (low muscle tone) or some neurological issue. It is difficult to comment without going through full details and reports. Lung issues is probably form prolonged ventilatory support. Kindly request your doctor to discuss details when he is free.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
