Suggest Treatment After Being Scratched By A Monkey
We went to Monkey first yesterday in Ubud Bali. a young monkey jump on my shoulder and while ascending down scratch my hand a bit. i did not noticed that immediately, but later my hand swelled with some redness. There is no fever or itching, just the discomfort of some numbness in my hand. I had tetanus 5 years ago but no rabies vaccination. The monkeys in the park are well looked after and there is always a large crowd in the park. I doubt that the monkeys have rabies. Should i See a doctor? i can send a photo of my hand. thanks
Yes, rabies prophylaxis is recommended for monkey bite also. One dose of the vaccine is administered on days 0, 3, 7, 14 and 30 intramuscularly. Injections must be given into the deltoid region. Minor scratch without bleeding is classified as category 2 according to WHO classification and immediate vaccination is recommended for such injury. Advice 1. Clean the wound with betadine liquid 2. Injection Rabipur intramuscularly on days 0, 3, 7, 14 and 30 3. Injection Tetvac IM stat – one dose 4. Hot fomentation with slight warm water 5. Ibuprofen 400 mg after meal per oral if pain is intolerable. Otherwise avoid it I hope this information will help you. I will be happy if you ask another question Thanks
