Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello , I had an insect bite on 19th sept. After which my leg was swollen and was admitted to hospital coz of pain. On 27th Sept, I had to undergo a surgery which named as Debridement of foot . Now the pain is reduced but the redness near bones is not reduced. The doctor who operated did not inform that the redness needs to be reduced. And now they suggest a treatment which needs 8000Rs per week. Please can you suggest what more treatment is required?
The most important thing is to watch for signs of infection such as pus secretion fever or swelling of extremity and in this case you should see doctor who will probably prescribe antibiotics.
Otherwise, you need some kind of antihistaminic ointment Also Apply an ice pack to a bite or sting for 15 to 20 minutes once an hour for the first 6 hours.
Try a nonprescription medicine for the relief of itching, redness, and swelling such as Benadryl or Chlor-Trimeton. Hydrocortisone 1% cream or calamine lotion may also be helpful. it is important not to scratch or manipulate the wound to prevent infection.
You may cover the wound with a thin layer of petroleum jelly, such as Vaseline, and a nonstick bandage.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
