Suggest Treatment For 3/4 Lung Cancer As He Is Scared Of Chemo.
Hello doctor, my father has been diagnosed with stage 3/4 lung cancer after repeated tests and Chest X-rays just 2 days back. He is a heart patient too, had an angioplasty 12years back. He is 72y old. The doctors do not want to put him on Steroinds and my father is scared of chemo. He coughs a lot and lost a lot of weight.Cannot eat solid food as he feels chest pain and loss of breath if he eats or drinks. Pls advice on any options to lessen his problem. He is very weak and losing hope.
Since your father is very weak and in stage 4 lung cancer i would suggest u do EGFR and ALK mutation test from his biopsy sample. If mutation is positive then oral chemotherapyerlotinib and crizotinib will work for him to control the tumour size. As your father is in poor general condition he is advised against injectable chemotherapy. If he fails to tolerate oral chemotherapy then basic supportive care is the only option. Regards DR De
