Is there any treatment available for ADHD? My 5.9 year old child (male) is suffeing from ADHD. He is having some behaviroual issues and he can not focus on a task for more then 2-3 minutes. Most of the time he seeks for our attention, and try to distract ourselves if we don't listen him. We are really helpless as this is affecting our normal life. We are very worried about his own future too
Hi, Thanks for asking. In my opinion if the hyperactivity and impulsive nature of your child is affecting his day to day life then you must start treatment for him When such a child comes to me I usually start the child on stimulant medications like methyphenidate and start behavioural therapy for him. I also advice parental counselling to handle his behaviour. These children are very impulsive and can not wait their turn. And so he behaves like this if you do not respond. Firm and consistent response is the key to this. If he seeks your attention and you are busy, then tell him you are busy and will attend to him later and then do not attend him. As for his future, With therapies and medications the outcome of this condition is good.
