My son is about 38 months old. We consulted multiple doctors and therapists and havent received an positive response or improvement in my son. He suffering from most of the symptoms of ADHD
I have read over the internet and it says " combination of a psychostimulant, most commonly methylphenidate (Ritalin), and cognitive-behavioral therapy is proving to be the best option for treatment of children with ADHD.
This certainly is a hot topic in my practice! While it would not be responsible to make specific recommendations about treatment for your chid, I would be happy to provide some important background.
At your child's age it is very difficult to accurately diagnosis ADHD. Most children at this age are hyperactive, impulsive and inattentive to some degree. If your child's case is more extreme and out of ordianry, then it warrents further consideration. But.. the first thing that should be done is to rule out a medical problem!! - such as anemia, sleep related disorders (such as obstructive sleep apnea), hearing and visual problems. These commonly mimic ADHD at this age and can be easily missed if not considered. Unfortunately, many children are incorrectly diagnosed and treated with medications. Even if ADHD were to be diagnosed, at your child's age medication and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) are not appropriate treatments. Behavioural modification (different than CBT) and acquiring new parenting techniques would certainly be the best place to start. I would suggest reading up on becoming a COACHING parent.
