Suggest Treatment For Bell's Palsy While On Prednisone

What can I do to help with the pain from Bell's Palsy? I had it on the right side of my face in 1992. I was treated with prednisone that time. A week ago, It struck the left side of my face. Because I am now diabetic, my PA thought it would not be a good choice to treat me with prednisone this time. I am having very intense pain behind my left ear. It seems to come and go. So very painful.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

As per your complain yes, it is right that the symptoms of paralysing of muscles of one side of face tgat has now affected another side aare all due to BELL'S PALSY or Facial Nerve PALSY that occurs due to disturbances in the functioning of seventh cranial nerve that is Facial Nerve that supplies the muscles of face..

It can occur due to any traumatic injury causing damage to affected side, infection, compression of nerve by any major artery, tumor etc..

Consult a Neurophysician and get evaluated and investigations like MRI scan, nerve conduction studies, Electromyography etc can be advised to rule out the cause and treatment of the underlying cause will help in improving the symptoms gradually..

Prednisone is being avoided as it is a Steroid and can cause acute rise in blood sugar levels..

He can be advised Physiotherapy along with alternate warm and cool compresses along with treatment of cause to relieve symptoms faster..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
