Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
HI I am taking Cipralex (10 mg) for two months now,and Xanax (0.5 mg) to help me sleep because my insomnia as a side effect did not go away yet? I started Cipralex because of depression and bad sleeping time, so my question is will my insomnia caused by Cipralex go away because I do not want to be on Xanax more than 3 months?
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. Cipralex 10 is Escitalopram and the drug is a SSRI drug. The drug is a good antidepressant drug. It is known to cause slight insomnia and this is the reason it is advised to be taken in morning hours. If the insomnia caused by the drug is intolerable then discuss with your doctor and start taking the drug in morning times in stead of evening time. Till then you can use Clonazepam on SOS basis as this would help in good sleep. If the symptoms persist even after that then other SSRI like Sertraline or Paroxetine can be added. These drugs cause sleepiness and sedation and don't cause insomnia. You can visit your doctor and can discuss about these drugs.
Thanks, I hope this helps you. Take care
