Suggest Treatment For E Coli For A Person Undergoing Dialysis

My husband was just diagnosed with ecoli and the doctor wants to put him on antibiotics? I just read this is not good? What should he be taking? He had a heart attack, stroke and now on dialysis and in the hospital for gallstones and now this? What is going on? Help? Dr. Higgins
