Suggest Treatment For GERD

My father has severe reflux and an esphogeal stricture. Everything he drinks comes right back up. He has had several dilatations one just in the past 6 weeks. He has lost 10 lbs in the past 4 weeks. Unable to take anything and has refused. Is on Protonix and Reglan as well. Seriously considering a G-Tube, please advise

Hi ! Good evening. I am Dr Shareef answering your query. With the severity of the stricture as mentioned by you, a G-tube might be the only alternative to maintain his nutrition and body weight. You have not mentioned detailed history as to why he got such stricture. Was it due to simply a chronic esophagitis due to reflux, or there was any other organic lesion. Once the nutrition and weight is maintained for him, a definitive course of action (possibly a curative surgery) could be possible if need be. Till then, he could go on taking Protonix and Reglan.
