Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been taking omeprazole 20 mg qd. for gerd for long time, and have just switched to ranitidine 150 mg. qd. The pharmacist said it is not as strong, but perhaps would be better as omeprazole can cause problems if taken for a long time. The ranitidine does not seem to be doing as good a job at controlling the gerd...would it be okay to increase to 300 mg qd.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Dr. Ali's Response
No it there is no harm in increasing the dose of ranitidine but Omeprazole in your case is a more potent drug than ranitidine in your case. Instead of increasing dose of ranitidine to 300mg i would advise you to increase your dose of omeprazole to 40mg. Beside that you can use any good antacids like mucaine 2tsf PO thrice daily.
