Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

As per your complain in case if your son has recurrent outbreaks of Herpes infection then the best way to get the treatment done is to take antiviral medications like Acyclovir,Famicyclovir,Valacyclovir etc..
Application of anti viral ointments over the sores can help..
As you are on vacation now you can take ver the counter painkillers and mouthwashes for pain relief..
You can apply numbing ointments like Oragel over sores in case of pain..
Difflam mouthwash or Magic Mouthwash can be used for gargles as they have anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties..
Application of antiviral ointments containing Acyclovir like Zovirax intment can help..

But my sincere suggestion will be to consult a doctor for antiviral oral medications when he is having outbreak..

Hope this information helps..

If you find the answer helpful please give me a Five Star Review and click on found the answer helpful as a token of appreciation..
