Suggest Treatment For IBS And Raised Bilirubin Levels

Hi I m 36, female, no etoh or IVDU so I ve been told I have an eating disorder/disease! I ve lost 6 stone since March, I vomit bad foods and only pick at good foods, drink diet drinks and miss meals often and use laxitvies when I feel bloated. I weight every day and feel happy and in control. However, my billirubin is raised and my GP wants me to repeat the test next week. How can my liver be affected? I ve cured my IBS and my parents are proud that I m now looking slimmer - Surely this is the best it s been for years! I was 25 stone! Confused.com!

Hello,

Raised bilirubin levels commonly occur due to liver dysfunction, bile duct inflammation, Gilbert's syndrome, Hepatitis or Gall stones.

You are suggested to get physically examined, get CBC, Urinalysis (bile pigment/bilirubin), Liver function tests & USG done to detect any liver or gall bladder problem.

Your treatment will depend upon the severity of the pathology detected. Take home made boiled food, avoid spicy oily food. Stay away from addictions if any.

Lifestyle changes cause relief from IBS, take high fiber diet, avoid food that triggers your symptoms, maintain your eating time & exercise regularly.

Medications are effective to treat IBS but take them under your treating doctor. At present get your liver treated first.

Take adequate sleep, stay away from stress & stay well hydrated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
