Dear Doctor I am a 38 yr old married male and type 2 diabetic from last 2 years and diagnosed with Iga Nephropathy. Doctor has advised me a PREDNISONE tablet (60 mg) for next couple of months.Doctor also mentioned that this disease will affect kidney in the long run. Please advise me how to overcome this disease, apart from the tablets. Is this disease curable ? Any approved treatments for this disease ? Since i am just 38 yrs and no kids as of now,is there a harm in planning kids in future. I am really worried to be diagnosed with this disease so early in my life. Need your suggestions Please. Thanking you
IgA nephropathy is a condition that happens when protein called ‘IgA’ builds up in the kidneys. IgA nephropathy damages the kidneys so they don't work well. Most people with the condition have no symptoms, but some people notice blood in their urine. If your blood and urine tests show that your kidneys are not damaged, you might not need treatment.
But you should get blood and urine tests at least once a year to check how well your kidneys are working. If your blood or urine tests show signs of kidney damage, you might need to take medicines. These can include: ACE inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blockers, statins, steroids, fish oil.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Heang Chan Raksmey, General & Family Physician
