Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been diagnosed with LVH. I am 59 and did half marathon training for the past 10 years. My father died at 34 after running for a bus and had a heart attack when he sat down on the bus. My LV wall thickness is 18mm. I am now on blood pressure treatment. What is my long term prognosis and is it possible to reduce the LVH back to normal?
Hi,. Tanks for askingyour query, If it's LVH only you need not to worry but please make sure that its not hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Early death of your father during exertional activity can be because of missed Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
So to be on safe side you can go for a repeat echo.As it is amanual test some times technician can miss HOCM. As per your query regarding LVH,No its not reversible however it can be controlled very well. Target blood pressure is 130/86 mm of hg and try to keep your pressure less then it. If managed well long time prognosis is excellent. Just keep your blood pressue below target. Never over exert yourself. You can do exercise but start doing them gradully and increase your capacity daily.
